Toevallig was de eerstvolgende editie in Leeuwarden – dat is voor ons echt naast de deur! Dus we came, we saw en we kochten het hele Boekenfestijn leeg. Hier is mijn buit.

Ik wil je graag eerst even geruststellen: ‘alleen maar’ de linkerstapel is van mij, de rechter is de buit van mam. Oké, de linkerstapel is het hoogst, maar toch.
Bij binnenkomst had ik zowaar een plan. Waar ik de vorige keer als een soort kip zonder kop direct boeken in mijn mandje begon te mikken, spoedde ik me deze keer eerst naar de Engelse boeken. Die zijn namelijk veel goedkoper dan de Nederlandse en ik lees net zo lief Engels als Nederlands. Daarna dwaalde ik nog tussen de Nederlandse boeken door, maar doordat ik in de laatste prijsklasse was begonnen trad al snel het Primark-effect op: ik vond alle boeken boven de tien euro te duur. Hoezee voor mijn portemonnee!
Goed, tijd voor de buit.
Sophie Kinsella (Madeleine Wickham) – The wedding girl
Ik heb zelf nog maar één boek van Madeleine Wickham (de echte naam van Sophie Kinsella) gelezen en dat beviel me niet zo goed, maar dit boek kostte geloof ik twee euro. Daar kun je je geen bult aan vallen, hm?

De laatste tijd hoor ik heel veel over Erica James. En dan bedoel ik ‘heel veel’ als in ‘heel veel goeds’. Plus, dit boekje heeft de ideale afmetingen voor in een koffer, bijvoorbeeld om mee te nemen naar – ik noem maar wat, hoor – Griekenland. (Als hij het tot dan overleeft.)

Ik heb de vorige boeken in de I heart-serie ook gelezen, maar ik voelde nooit zo de behoefte om de rest te lezen. Ik vond de schrijfstijl leuk en de personages best oké, maar toch ben ik er niet aan toe gekomen de overige delen te lezen. En toen zag ik dit boek… En het was 1,49. Ik wilde hem alleen al om de mooie cover!

Dit boek deed me denken aan Tijger, tanga’s en tongzoenen, een boek dat ik in de derde klas keer op keer gelezen heb. Achteraf is het niet zo heel gek, want dit blijkt het vijfde (!) deel te zijn in precies diezelfde reeks. Ik wist niet eens dat het een reeks was! Ik moet dus z.s.m. de overige delen aanschaffen. *dramatische zucht* Het is niet anders. (En Lau klaagt al dat we nu een extra Billy moeten kopen. O jee.)

But Georgia doesn’t remain brokenhearted for long: frequent snogging extravaganzas with old flame, Dave the Laugh, and the arrival of jelloid-knee-inducing Italian Stallion, Masimo, mean that Georgia has her work cut out to be the composed sex-kitten that she aspires to be. Follow Georgia’s hilarious antics as she desperately muddles her way through teenage life and all that it entails: make-up disasters, rapidly expanding nunga-nungas, school — urgh, unsympathetic friends, highly embarrassing family (and pets) and, of course, BOYS.
Jennifer Weiner – Certain girls (Cannie Shapiro #2)
Ik heb pas nog In her shoes van Jennifer Weiner gelezen en dat vond ik echt een fijn boek. Daarom besloot ik dat dit vast ook een fijn boek zou worden. Nu blijkt dit natuurlijk ook weer het tweede deel in een serie te zijn. Grr. Ja hoor. Nou ja.

Katrina Kittle – Reasons to be happy
Dit boek zag er heel schattig uit. Met glitters en glans en – awww, gewoon adorable. Verder sloeg ik de eerste pagina open en las het lekker weg, dus op de stapel met ‘blij vakantieleesvoer’!
*edit: Ik lees net op GoodReads dat dit boek gaat over een meisje met een eetstoornis die moet dealen met de ziekte van haar moeder. O.

Over dit boek heb ik heel gemengde verhalen gehoord. Het staat al een tijdje op mijn ‘wil ik hebben!’-lijstje, dus toen ik het zag liggen verdween het meteen in mijn mandje.

Lotte Hagen – Lekker belangrijk (of: hoe ik altijd weer in de problemen kom)
Jaaaaa Lotte! We volgen elkaar op Facebook en toen ze me in de wc op het Boekenbal gillend tegemoet kwam, wist ik dat wij het wel met elkaar konden vinden. Die koffie die we al maanden moeten gaan doen is er nog steeds niet van gekomen (sorry, sorry) maar ik kan in ieder geval haar boek lezen. En hardcover! Yay 🙂
De veertienjarige Puck houdt van dansen, is verschrikkelijk eigenwijs en flapt er altijd van alles uit. Gelukkig kan ze het met iedereen goed vinden. Nou ja, met bijna iedereen… Met haar jazzdanslerares Lonneke namelijk niet.
Dan wordt er op school een musical georganiseerd. Dit is voor Puck dé kans om mee te doen aan een dansoptreden. Tot ze hoort dat Lonneke de regie heeft. Lonneke is vastbesloten om Pucks plannen te dwarsbomen. Maar Puck zou Puck niet zijn als ze geen plan bedacht om alsnog de show te stelen!
Terwijl Puck hard oefent voor de musical, schrijft ze grappige klaagbrieven aan Ola, Dream Cosmetics, Connexxion en andere bedrijven, vrolijkt ze de ernstig zieke mevrouw Reuzer op en probeert ze uit alle macht de jongen op wie ze verliefd is te ontlopen…
Simon de Waal en andere auteurs – Summercrime
Deze verhalenbundel was het gratis boek dat ik uitkoos met de bon die je kan uitprinten als je je abonneert op de nieuwsbrief van het Boekenfestijn (tip!). Ik was lekker op tijd, dus er was nog veel keuze. Er lag niet echt iets bij waarvan mijn hart direct sneller ging kloppen, dus ging ik – heel oppervlakkig – voor dit boek omdat het zo’n mooi omslag heeft.
Bijdragen van onder meer Saskia Noort, Simon de Waal, Charles den Tex, René Appel, Thomas Ross, Bavo Dhooge, Eva Noorlander e.v.a.
Summercrime is het antwoord op de vraag die samensteller Simon de Waal stelde aan de beste crimeschrijvers van Nederland en België: ‘Wat gebeurt er als je de beste thrillerschrijvers van Nederland en België elk een verhaal laat schrijven vanuit eenzelfde centraal punt. Wat voor verschillende verhalen komen daaruit voort?’ Ergens staat een auto, in de duinen, met lichten aan en een deur halfopen. En of dat nu in het begin, midden of eind van het verhaal is, en of het deel uitmaakt van het plot of niet, dat mag iedere auteur voor zichzelf bepalen…
Anna Davies – Wrecked
Ik zag deze hardcover met dustjacket liggen en dacht meteen: ‘Jij gaat met mij mee naar huis.’ Zeer verfrissend dat dit eens níét het begin (of erger, het vijfde boek, ahum) uit een serie is; het is gewoon een boek. Zonder prequel of vervolg. Want die worden nog geschreven. Dit boek staat op zichzelf. Ik weet niet of ik het mee durf te nemen naar Griekenland, aangezien we de vakantie doorbrengen op een boot en dit boek gaat over een zeeheks 😉

Christine Seifert – The Predicteds
Het omslag van dit boek voelt heel gek aan en zit tussen glans en mat in, waardoor The Predicteds meteen mijn aandacht trok. Ik ben heel benieuwd naar het verhaal, dat gaat over een programma dat het mogelijk maakt te voorspellen of mensen later in het leven een gevaar voor de samenleving zullen vormen. Ik heb ook een keer een film met die invalshoek gekeken, maar ik ben even vergeten hoe hij heette. Anyway: interessant!

Patrick Ness – Het donkere paradijs (Chaos #2)
Vorige keer twijfelde of ik deel 2 van deze serie mee zou nemen, maar ik wist niet of ik deel 1 wel leuk zou vinden. Waarom ik hem nu wél heb meegenomen? Omdat ik ineens besefte hoe goedkoop 9 euro is voor zo’n dik boek en hoe snel alles uitverkocht kan zijn. Zo ging ik eigenlijk (heel stiekem) deze keer naar het Boekenfestijn om deel 3 in de Cold Awakenings-serie te scoren. Maar die lag nergens meer! Alleen deel 2 🙁 Dus nu moet ik online op zoek naar deel 3, terwijl ik hem vorige keer echt voor 2 euro in m’n mandje had kunnen doen. Stom, stom, stom! Daarom bij dezen: 9 euro voor een boek dat normaal 19,95 kost is NIET DUUR. Ik kan niet uitsluiten dat als ik zondag met mijn schoonzusje nog een bezoekje breng aan het Boekenfestijn, ik het derde deel ook insla. Ik post geen flaptekst, want die wil ik helemaal niet lezen 🙂
Catherine Knutsson – Shadows cast by stars
Oehhh kijk nou hoe pretty de cover is! Hardcover met dustjacket en bijna lichtgevende letters. Deze wil je toch gewoon hebben? Ook de flaptekst sprak me heel erg aan. Dystopisch: check. Oude legendes: check. Creepy gewoontes: check. NEED! WANT! BUY!

Suzi Moore – Lexiland
Ik vond dit boek eigenlijk wat te duur (zie het Primark-effect waar ik het eerder over had), maar de eerste pagina raakte direct de juiste snaar bij me. De vertelstijl is precies de juiste combinatie van luchtig, sarcastisch en onschuldig. Ik vermoed dat ik geen spijt ga krijgen van het aanschaffen van dit boek.
Emma is negen jaar oud wanneer haar tweelingzus Laura op hun verjaardag stikt in een stuk slagroomtaart. Of was er misschien iets anders aan de hand? Vanaf dat moment is alles anders. Emma is geen deel meer van een tweeling, haar ouders ruziën de hele dag door en haar broertje krijgt alle aandacht. Emma voelt zich onzichtbaar, zowel thuis als op school. En sinds kort hoort ze ook nog de stem van haar dode zus, die probeert haar met haar problemen te helpen. Maar nog steeds is Emma eenzamer dan ooit. Tot op een dag een bijzonder meisje haar leven binnenwandelt. Lexi is eigenzinnig, uitbundig en tegelijkertijd een groot mysterie. Met haar wilde bos rode krullen en een ooglapje is ze bovendien een aparte verschijning. Wat is er met haar gebeurd, waar komt ze vandaan? Ze is één groot mysterie voor Emma, een mysterie dat langzaam wordt ontrafeld wanneer de twee elkaar beter leren kennen.
Dat was mijn uitspatting op het Boekenfestijn Leeuwarden! Deze keer zitten er maar weinig Nederlandse boeken tussen, maar mijn moeder heeft op dat gebied veel goedgemaakt met haar Nederlandse stapel. Zondag ga ik nog een keer, maar dan ben ik echt van plan om hooguit één boek te kopen. Ik weet dat ik dat deze keer ook eigenlijk zou doen, maar hé, je weet hoe dat gaat… *haalt hulpeloos schouders op*

Je raadt het al… Ik heb me zondag niet in kunnen houden. Goed, alles bij elkaar was het maar 12,50, maar toch zijn het vier boeken. Ach, laat ik ook niet doen alsof het me stoort. Hoe voller mijn kast is, hoe blijer ik ben!
Susan Coll – Beach week
Dit boek was maar één euro. EEN EURO! Ik las op de cover dat het werd aangeprezen als ‘hilarisch’ en meer heb ik niet nodig om ergens één euro aan uit te geven. In de categorie ‘hilarisch’ ben ik niet kieskeurig. Als het op iedere hamburger van Restaurant De Gouden Boogjes zou staan, zou ik nu een boekenkast vol McKroketten hebben.
Ah, “beach week”: a time-honored tradition in which the D.C. suburbs’ latest herd of high school grads flocks to Chelsea Beach for seven whole days of debauched celebration. In this dark comedy, ten teenage girls plan an unhinged blowout the likes of which their young lives have never seen. They smuggle vodka in water bottles and horde prescription drugs by the dozen.
Meanwhile, their misguided, affluent parents are too busy worrying about legal liabilities to fret over some missing pills or random hookups. For Jordan Adler and her family, though, this rite of passage threatens to become more than just frivolous fun. The teen’s parents, Leah and Charles, might not let their only child go at all. Jessica Hagedorn – Toxicology
Je ziet het niet, maar dit boek heeft een superblije kleurige rug. Dat gecombineerd met de zwartwitte voorkant, die helemaal uit bolletjes bestaat, vind ik awesome. Oké, je gaat nu denken dat ik dit boek alleen maar heb uitgekozen om hoe het eruitziet, maar dat is niet zo. Het verhaal spreekt me ook aan. Ik heb een blazijde gelezen en de eerste zin sprong er wat mij betreft al genoeg uit om dit boek een plekje in mijn mandje te garanderen.
Mimi Smith is a filmmaker of low-budget slasher movies in search of new material. Her neighbor Eleanor Delacroix is a legendary writer of erotic fiction, now nearing eighty and addicted to cocaine and gin. Their personal and artistic lives begin to collide in unexpected ways as Eleanor grieves over the recent death of her live-in lover, the renowned painter Yvonne Wilder, and as Mimi deals with the challenges presented by her newly sober brother Carmelo; her drug-dealing boyfriend, who has mysteriously disappeared; and her wayward fourteen-year-old daughter, Violet.

Tiffanie DeBartolo – How to kill a rock star
Wat ben ik blij dat ik dit boek tegenkwam! Ik las de achterkant voor de helft, werd ongeduldig en sloeg het open. Conclusie: I need this. (GoodReads is het trouwens met me eens; het boek heeft ruim 8000 reviews en staat gemiddeld 4.08. Winning!)

Patrick Ness – Lawaai dat nooit stopt (Chaos #3)
Ik had al gezegd dat ik dit derde en laatste deel uit de Chaos-trilogie graag nog wilde halen. Had ik mezelf net overgehaald om toch een vrij grote uitgave te doen op het boekenfestijn (zelfs met mijn kortingsbon was dit boek nog 7,50 – duur joh! :P) – leek het er ineens op dat het nergens meer te vinden was. Gelukkig lagen er nog twee exemplaren onder een grote stapel van deel 1, dus ik was een heel content boekenmonster! Ik ben blij dat ik uiteindelijk de hele serie gewoon compleet heb, want dat staat zo mooi in de kast. En nu hoef ik niet te stoppen met lezen om te wachten tot het volgende deel in mijn bezit is. EN nu hoef ik niet, zoals bij de Cold Awakenings-serie, nog heel hard te gaan zoeken naar deel 3. Een win-win-win-situatie.
